2

Site by site, against the criteria you marked as must. Missing data never counts as met.

3

Compare options on one cost basis

Offers are made comparable before you see them, with open points clearly marked.

What matters when storing e-commerce goods

01

Your order profile sets the price

Orders per day, lines per order and the share of single-item orders drive staffing and cost far more than the number of pallets. Have these figures ready, including the busiest week of the year.

02

Cut-off time and carriers

Same-day dispatch depends on how late the carriers collect at the site. Ask which carriers collect, at what time, and whether you can bring your own contracts.

03

Peaks need a plan, not a promise

Q4, Black Friday and campaigns can multiply daily orders. Ask how the provider staffs peaks, how much notice it needs and what happens to orders above the agreed capacity.

04

Returns are part of the job

Returns need to be checked, graded and booked back into stock quickly, or the goods cannot be resold. Agree a processing time and what happens to damaged items.

05

The interface decides the go-live date

Your shop system or marketplace has to pass orders and stock levels to the warehouse system. A provider that already runs a connector for your system starts faster.

06

Packaging and inserts are priced per item

Branded boxes, flyers, gift wrapping or bundles are value-added services. Specify them early so they appear in the offer, not on the first invoice.

Certifications and standards that matter

ISO 9001Quality management. Documented processes for receiving, picking and dispatch.
ISO 14001Environmental management. Relevant if you report on packaging and transport emissions.
TAPA FSR AHighest level of the TAPA facility security standard. Relevant for electronics, cosmetics and other high-value goods.
IFS LogisticsRelevant if you sell food, drinks or supplements online.
HACCPFood hygiene concept. Also for food sold online.

Any other standard or marketplace requirement: we check per site.

Typical mistakes when choosing a provider

  1. Comparing price per pallet only. In fulfilment, pick, pack and dispatch fees usually make up most of the bill.
  2. Sending average volumes instead of peak volumes. A site that copes in March can be full in November.
  3. Not asking how fast returns are back in stock. Slow returns tie up goods you could be selling.
  4. Leaving the interface to the end. Without a working connection to your shop, no order leaves the warehouse.

Frequently asked questions

What does an e-commerce fulfilment provider do?

It receives and stores your goods, picks and packs each order, hands the parcels to carriers and processes returns. Many also offer packaging, inserts and bundling as value-added services.

How many orders a day do I need for outsourced fulfilment?

There is no fixed minimum across providers. Tell us your current and expected daily orders and we check which partner sites take that volume.

Can a provider handle my peak season?

Many can, if they know early. Give us your peak volumes and dates; we check capacity and staffing for that period per site.

Which shop systems can be connected?

That depends on the site. We check per site which interfaces are already running and which would need to be set up.

How quickly can fulfilment start?

It depends on free capacity and the interface work. We confirm realistic timing per site in the first call.
